A collection of Frank Ocean’s cars includes a Porsche GT3, multiple BMWs such as the E30, E92, and E46 M3, a Tesla Model X, a McLaren 675LT, and many more. Aside from his use of cars lyrically in his music, the visuals he incorporates in his videos are very appealing. During this discussion, we’ll dig deeper into Frank Ocean’s car collection, his personal driving habits, and what he says about cars in his music. His vehicle is not just a means of transportation, but also a place to listen to music. Frank’s passion for cars ties them into his repertoire and carries a deeper meaning to him. As part of his storytelling, he connects automobiles with memories.
The whole car obsession I have is a cliché, according to Raf Simons. Maybe it’s a subconscious fantasy of a straight boy. Although I would prefer straight, I prefer a little bend. The editing of this project sometimes felt romantic to me. All the while, I felt as though I was watching a McLaren F1, armed with a disposable camera worth $16 million.”
Frank Ocean car collection: first car
As a teenager, Frank began driving cheap beaters and a BMW 550i from his music money. A stick shift Acura Integra with tinted windows and an exhaust system that sounded loud was the car he owned for a while. As a result of falling asleep while driving, Frank crashed the Acura into water. It is also possible to see an Acura/Honda NSX driving at night with pop-up headlights in the song he named after his first car. After that, he purchased a 1991 Civic and then a 2002 Nissan Maxima for a grand each. While he was making new songs, Frank would also drive around listening to his music and hear how it sounded in a car while he was making new songs.
Nostalgia Ultra Car. Frank Ocean’s orange BMW M3
Frank also owns multiple BMWs and includes an “orange car” on the cover of Nostalgia Ultra. It is also worth mentioning the story behind Frank Ocean’s album cover. Both the car and the picture in the picture weren’t his. A BMW enthusiast by the name of Dricebrug took the picture and was an active member on bimmerforums at the time, but now has sold the car. It’s not known whether Frank Ocean contacted Dricebrug about using the image for the cover of his mixtape. He said he has attempted to contact Frank directly, but has not heard back.
The orange M3 was also featured in a recent post by BMW USA. Frank Ocean and the German car manufacturer were reportedly in talks about collaborating before Frank Ocean’s Coachella concert. His caption was even inspired by lyrics from Nikes.
Coachella this week brings together the past and the future. It’s up to you guys to prophesy about what will happen next.”
As of right now, we are left to speculate about what could happen between them. However, we remain hopeful – perhaps Ocean himself will specify a new M car special edition. Frank Ocean’s car collection would also be enhanced by this addition.
What is a Frank Ocean BMW?
His first studio album Channel Orange and mixtape Nostalgia made Frank Ocean a millionaire. Among the BMWs he had were the E30 M3, the E90 M3 (which crashed once), and the F10 M5. As well as building his own orange M3, he also got it painted to look like the one on the Nostalgia, Ultra cover. There is only one small difference between the cars – Frank’s mirrors are painted orange rather than black. Check out Tyler The Creator’s cars if you’re curious about Frank’s love for BMW.
Additionally, he has also collected some E30s and E46s in addition to the M3, and honestly, keeping track of all the BMWs he owns is quite an undertaking. A five-car BMW set was built for his 2013 European tour and some of them were featured in the Boys Don’t Cry magazine, including the Nike swoosh E30. Castro Motorsport, which built Frank’s cars for the tour, owns the golden E30 that he also uses in his magazine visuals.
Frank Ocean’s cars: McLaren 675LT
The Tesla Model X, McLaren 675LT, and Porsche GT3 are some of Frank’s other modern cars. In addition, he has stated in an interview that he enjoys driving European and Japanese cars. A few of his favorites include Nissan Skylines, Mercedes-Benz CLK DTMs, Audi RS4s, Subaru Imprezas, as well as some larger SUVs such as the G-Wagon, X6 and Porsche Cayenne.
Porsche GT3 owned by Frank Ocean
A homologation model of the 911 is the GT3. Track day cars like this are perfect for track days. 468 horsepower, a 7-speed PDK developed specifically for racing cars, and a time from 0 to 60 in 3.5 seconds are among its features. The 991 Frank owns was produced between 2013 and 2019. The Flaming Lips t-shirt he wore on racing circuits matches the device.
White Ferrari / Cars in Frank Ocean’s songs
“White Ferrari” is still a big part of Frank Ocean’s repertoire despite there being no white Ferraris in his collection. This is an anthem for those of us who wish to be a bit taller. Aside from the jokes, White Ferrari is a song that takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions, and ends with a strange catharsis. The story is about two young lovers who are too afraid to express their feelings, and when they finally find the courage to tell something, it is too late. You barely notice the emotional heaviness of the whole song until it’s over thanks to the soft-spoken nature of the song. When the song ends, you realize that you’re left with a void, and you begin to long to listen to it again… just like in love.
I had a good time watching the clouds float in front of the White Ferrari with my dilated eyes, mind on the road”.
Throughout the song, there are obvious references to drugs, indicating that he and his lover were doing coke. I also found that a movie and a TV show might have had some influence on the album. I’m talking about “The Wolf of Wall Street” starring Leo, as well as the TV show “Miami Vice”. Ferrari became more popular in the 1980s thanks to Miami Vice. Ferrari didn’t like replica Daytonas used in the first two seasons by the main characters. Their donation of 2 white Ferrari Testarossas became synonymous with the show when they asked them to stop using replicas. Drug use was also a problem in Miami at the time. Jordan Belfort mentioned Miami Vice in The Wolf of Wall Street when he said his Ferrari was white. Aside from its heavy use of Quaalude, which Frank also mentions in his song Nights, The Wolf of Wall Street is also known for its heavy use of marijuana. A white Ferrari Testarossa from the 80s would most likely be the best match for this song
“This feels like a quaalude to me.”
Check out his Boys Don’t Cry magazine if you have it for a close-up photo of a white Ferrari. There are cool pictures of Frank’s favorite cars in the magazine.
Frank mentions the following vehicles (and car-related things) in his repertoire:
- Lexus, Bugatti (Futura Free, Blonde)
- Honda, Porsche & Bugatti (U-N-I-T-Y, Endless)
- Xenons (a type of headlight for cars) (Endless)
“Blue Xenons if it’s a lease, at least it looks cool on you.”
- Mitsubishi Sony (Endless)
- Mercedes-Benz (Mitsubishi Sony)
“Mercedes with big bodies and LED lights are overpriced”
- Lincoln Town Car (Swim Good, Nostalgia, Ultra)
- Mustang (American Wedding, Nostalgia, Ultra)

Race connections and Frank’s Blonde album
Despite Frank Ocean’s car collection and his use of them in his songwriting, we only scratched the surface. In addition to his music, his garage is constantly evolving, so it will be fascinating to see what he comes up with next with regards to his rides. As mentioned before, most of the cars he mentions in his songs are connected to a specific period in his life and the stories and meanings go deeper. In Ivy, a later song by Frank, he mentions having a BMW X6 which helps us comprehend the timeframe Frank is discussing, which would be around 2010.
In addition, the blond logo is based on the Nascar logo, which offers a deeper connection to car culture.
His album cover photo was shot at Fuji Speedway, a racing track in Japan, where he wore a helmet and hoodie with the blonde logo.
Besides Frank Ocean’s own songs, blonded Los Santos 97.8 FM also plays songs like Chief Keef – Winninft. A selection of songs from King Louie, Lil Uzi Vert, JME and Giggs, plus over an hour of other content curated by Frank.
Frank enjoys biking just as much as Tyler does. Biking, a song they both released with Jay-Z, was a hit.
Besides that, I also played around a bit for fun and made alternative covers for Nostalgia, Ultra and Blonde. My Ferrari Testarossa and McLaren F1 were white.
As long as he has been making music, he has included automotive culture in everything from Mustangs to Bugattis.
